TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a National Board Certified Teacher with a master's degree in Pedagogy and Learning with an emphasis on Technology. I began teaching in 2004, my first class was a kindergarten class. I have taught intervention to third, fourth and fifth graders. I usually teach summer school and have had the opportunity to teach every grade level from kindergarten through sixth grade. Most of my classroom experience is with third, fourth and fifth grade students. I appreciate students of all ages, but my passion is working with upper elementary students because the inspire me on a daily basis!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a highly structured and organized classroom. However, this does not mean that students are quietly sitting at desks all day. I believe that students should work cooperatively, participate in inquiry projects throughout the curriculum, receive instruction in a variety of formats and have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned. Writing is used daily across the curriculum and the students create projects (typically in a foldable format) that are bound in a portfolio at the end of the year. During reading the students participate in whole group activities and small group rotations so that I have the opportunity to have guided reading groups. Math is taught in a similar format where the students work together on whole group activities and then break into small group stations so that I can help students based on their level of need. Science and social studies are taught thematically and integrated throughout the curriculum, especially ELA.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am a National Board Certified Teacher (Middle Childhood Generalist).

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Master of Education with a concentration on Pedagogy and Learning and an emphasis on Educational Technology. I have a TESOL (ESL) and Physical Education endorsement.
